Your first day¶
Introduction¶
Welcome to your first day of your new adventure! 😄 Whether it is your first experience or it is 30 years you are doing this, the first day can be overwhelming! So many projects, and customers, and technologies, and tools!
Let us provide you some information that can be useful to help you begin. We hope you will have fun with us, and you will mesh with the team well.
People¶
Nextbit is made of people like you (we are not robots, yet!), so if you have any difficulty, or just want to have a bit of chit-chat, feel free to ask a colleague, both in person or on chat. We strongly encourage having periodic video-calls with people who work remotely, where you can discuss anything you want, not necessarily work related!
Accounts¶
Microsoft Account¶
Nextbit director should have provided you with credentials to access your Microsoft account.
This is your primary e-mail account and it has the form <first_letter_name><surname>@nextbit.it.
For example, Mario Rossi would have the account mrossi@nextbit.it.
This is the address you will use to communicate with the customers and your colleagues, and since the naming scheme is very easy you can easily deduce all e-mail addresses of your colleagues.
Your Microsoft Account gives you access to the full Office 365 suite at office.com.
In particular, Nextbit team relies a lot on the following software:
Outlook: your main inbox, used to communicate with customers and colleagues;
Calendar: the calendar, where you have to indicate your appointments and daily availability;
Teams: an internal chat that allows you to communicate and share documents among people working on your project;
Dynamics: a management software where you will report your daily activities;
SharePoint/OneDrive: shared online storage for documents.
You should immediately activate the two-factor authentication on your account.
Using your Microsoft account you can access the internal guidelines. Such a document explains in details the company functioning and its internal organization. Read Nextbit guidelines in details.
Nextbit has some mailing list accounts to share information with a large part of the team.
You should ensure that you have been added to the group Team.
In this way you will receive emails sent to team@nextbit.it.
This kind of communication is received by everybody at Nextbit.
Google Account¶
Nextbit director should have provided you with credentials to access your Google account.
This is your secondary e-mail account and it has the form <first_letter_name><surname>@nextb.it.
For example, Mario Rossi would have the account mrossi@nextb.it.
Your Google Account gives you access to the full Google suite.
In particular, the Nextbit team uses frequently the following software:
Meet: a very stable video-call software.
You should immediately activate the two-factor authentication on your account.
Devices¶
Computer¶
Nextbit director should have provided you with a powerful computer (PC 😉) to perform your daily work.
Nextbit gives you the freedom and responsibility to take care personally of your PC. This means that you can set your main PC account as an administrator account and you have the possibility to install every software you need. On the other side you have to know that you can severely damage the PC with those rights, so you should be careful when you manage internal settings.
You should keep your PC updated with the latest software releases and security fixes. Nextbit has an internal checklist of requirements that has to be satisfied to use the provided PC correctly. You should install all the software necessary to be compliant with this checklist.
Smartphone¶
Nextbit director should have provided you with a smartphone and a SIM card.
When you receive your SIM card you should send an email to team@nextbit.it
reporting your new phone number to let everyone add you to its list of contacts.
On the phone, we use Whatsapp for fast informal communication. When you have created a Whatsapp account, you should ask the director to add you to Nextbit Whatsapp group. It is used for informal communication and wishes.
You have to install the phone management app Intune to let Nextbit know which applications you have installed.
